My MIL (SOs mother to be precise) was put on a TO for six months back in April and my SO and I have been attending counseling. She is planning a visit to see us and our 17 month old LO in October when the six month TO is over.
She is a huge boundary stomper, SO chose her feelings over mine constantly and it felt as if her was married to her which is the main reason him and I have not gotten married like we planned.
I'm so anxious about how this visit is going to go. First she wanted to come for a whole month. I said no way, that's too long for anyone to visit, especially someone who we haven't seen yet how they have really changed. So now it's a week and if we're all still comfortable, we will extend it another week.
I'm so worried this visit is going to undo so much of the work SO and I have done. I know I have to give her a chance to prove she's sincerely sorry for how she treated me in the past, but I keep thinking its a bad idea that's going to put us all back even further when I know I have come a long way and so has SO.
How should the first visit after a TO go? Are my fears normal or does it mean I need more time? Is it wrong to extend a TO after it was already agreed to be a certain time even though she's done nothing else wrong?
Thanks for your help in advance!
