Hi, I signed up for another account for anonymity. I don't want to post all the BG because it would be too long. Basically, DH, LO, and I lived with ILs for a few months and moved away because it was not good for us. Your run of the mill boundary stomping, PA ILs, not respecting our rules, but also issues with family pets (jealous dog that was aggressive towards LO and ILs constantly made excuses and rugswept).
After two months of being on our own again (which is heaven), PIL and SIL came to our state to attend an event a couple hours away. They asked DH to meet up with us for lunch, DH declined and said it wasn't a good day. Not even an hour later, DH received a text from MIL going completely off her rocker. Threatening GPR and getting my cut off FOO involved, accusing us of abusing our child by keeping him away from his grandparents, making low blow comments about me, and saying our child will be angry at us for not allowing him to have that love growing up. All because DH politely declined meeting up. Gaaaaag.
MIL is the kind of person who is very outwardly sweet and very faaaamily oriented, and also baby rabies. But when she's mad and you don't do what she wants, she's hateful and says things to hurt people. And plays the victim card and guilt trips. We had a cordial relationship until we had LO, and now she's shown her true colors since we developed a backbone. I'm pretty disgusted at this message, and DH has come to expect this kind of toxic behavior from her. Honestly my stomach is in knots and I'm having trouble focusing even though I know she doesn't have a leg to stand on. I was emotionally abused by my parents and raised in a dysfunctional situation so all of this is very triggery for me.
What do I do? Should DH respond carefully or ignore the message (he tends to BH a lot, as do I)? Should we seek legal advice? Please help!
