Longtime DWILer but new account because of too obvious screen name.
MIL has been CO for a blissful three years and counting. Neither of us have unicorns for her. She's never met our latest LO. She hasn't called in over a year- we BH religiously. She hasn't shown up for a lawn tantrum in more than two, having the cops called on her was enough of a deterrent.
But she still sends Xmas gifts through the mail. Pottery barn furniture, bedding, toys etc all personalized with DD's name. These always goes straight to a local domestic violence shelter because they don't care having personalized crap. Everything without a name goes to goodwill. She has always left me out of the gift giving until this year. This year she bought me a outrageously expensive Fendi handbag. That nasty bitch knows I love Fendi and now the whole brand is tainted. This bag is too expensive to give to goodwill or a woman's shelter. I thought maybe I'd return it and buy DH something outrageous. We're huge on budgeting so we never ever buy frivolous things even when we can afford to, so it might be fun to shop like we won the lottery.
But is this like spending blood money? I can't get cash for the return just a credit to spend at Fendi, so I'd buy DH cuff links or a watch.
MIL has diagnosed borderline personality disorder and this "gift" screams of splitting behavior.
What else do I do with this thing?? I'll post a pic in the comments with the suggested retail price.
