Crazymaking MIL tried to give 3mo beer...

... and legit tried to pass it off as washing her hands. Wtf!

I shared this on my birth board earlier but figure you guys would get a kick out of this. MIL is very clueless and so brain-fried.

We were at Mellow Mushroom for dinner, had been waiting around forever. Baby was cranky and needed a diaper change. My hubby went to change the baby for me, then handed him back to my MIL who was the easiest to pass the baby to. He went to go wash his hands, and baby began to fuss. So MIL dipped her finger into her glass of beer and headed straight for B's mouth.

She watched me as she was doing it, to see what I would do I guess. I started with "uh uh..." in a playful tone, thinking she was jokingly implying that she'd give him beer to calm him down and help him sleep. But she kept going, so it turned into "uh uh uh UH UH NO." She handed baby back to me and he immediately settled.

Later on, my daughter yelled out "Daddy I have to go poop right now!!" So daddy took her to the bathroom and MIL waited until he was gone again to tell me she wasn't really going to give the baby beer, she was just dipping her finger in to clean off the hand sanitizer she'd used a minute ago. Wtf, how does that make sense? You don't wash off sanitizer by putting your finger in beer. Even then, there was a wet drip on her finger. If there had been any attempt at "cleaning" she would have wet her finger, rubbed it a little then dried it on a napkin. There was none of this.

I took the kids and left shortly after we finished eating, because it was already past bedtime and we had two cars among us, so I left my husband with his parents so they could take their time. As they were enjoying their drinks, MIL brought up the beer thing to my husband, insisting that she was only trying to clean the alcohol off her finger (with more alcohol?? lol) as if the more she said it out loud, the more believable her story would become. Little did she know my husband was already aware, since I'd been discretely texting him a play by play from under the table.

Now I'm also suspicious because she supposedly soothed him to sleep earlier this afternoon. She was watching him as I was working in my office and I'd just put him down to nap, and he started fussing a little but "settled down" and then slept for two hours.

Needless to say, she doesn't get to be left alone with the baby again any time soon. We already don't let her babysit, but from now on she won't even be allowed to be the only adult present in the room with him until he's much older.
