Okay, a little background: when my DH and I were just dating, his grandfather asked me if I knew "the name deal." Um, no... We'd been together for 4 months, mind you. As he asked my DH to explain this to me, I became aware that it was expected of me to allow my husband to pass on his name (he's the fifth in his family with the same full name... Consecutively) to our future son, if we were to have one. I saw no problem in this and genuinely took it as a compliment that his family thought our relationship would get to that point. Fast forward a few months and I started to learn about my DH's family a little more... His father (same full name as DH, but the fourth) had cheated on my MIL causing their divorce. At this point my DH and I had not been engaged yet, but were heading in that direction.
DH and I got married last year and are now expecting our first child in November.
Let the drama begin... We will find out the gender in 2 1/2 weeks, but so far it has been a boy/girl battle between my MIL and my FIL (whom despise one another since their divorce......... 20 damn years ago....).
FIL and his father (same full name, but the third) have been so persistent with the "our future grandson" bullshit and it frankly makes me mad... And sad. If our baby turns out to be a girl, will they be disappointed? Will we constantly hear about then needing to give them a grandson? Ugh! It doesn't end there...
MIL is a nightmare. She hates my FIL so much that she cannot stop talking negatively about DH's namesake... And begging us to not pass on the name if baby is a boy. I get that there is pain and resentment on her part... But come on, this is OUR BABY. She is so "you need to have a girl" that I'm losing my mind.
I feel like telling them all to eff-off. They're fun-suckers... They're ruining this amazing time for me by being totally selfish.
