My MIL is retired and doesn't do much. So for this school year, she volunteered to watch our son. Before she watched him, I would drop him off at a babysitters house at 7 and pick him up at 3:30. I paid $40 a day to the babysitter. I really didn't mind dropping him off and the pay was reasonable.
This summer she says, I'll watch him. I'll come to your house so you don't have to drop him off. You can sleep later and not worry about taking care of him in the morning. I agreed.
Well, it's been 2 weeks since school started. My DH leaves for work at 11 and is with our DS until she arrives. She comes around 10. No biggie, right? But, she takes him to her house and expects me to pick him up. Still no biggie, right?
My DH dropped a bomb on me last night that she expects to be paid the same $40 per day that I paid my other babysitter. I was livid! Did I expect her to do it for free? No! But I wasn't expecting to pay $200/week for a grandma to watch her own grandchild! Also, she watches her other grandkids all the time and never charges them a penny.
Because I "fired" my other babysitter, she took another child and has no room for me. Finding a babysitter at that price is nearly impossible right now so I'm stuck with her. I'm just so pissed that I have to pay her the same amount even though she watches him for 3 hours less than my other babysitter and she's the fucking grandma!! We were gonna pay some of her bills or give her like $400 a month.
Is anyone else paying their MIL for childcare? Am I unreasonable? What should I do?
