Q: Am I being unreasonable? Truthfully do I need to budge?
Background: My family has done Christmas on Christmas Eve for the last 15 years because typically my mom works Christmas Day. Usually we spend Christmas Day with DH's family. We live 45 min away from both families.
I told my mom we'll be available all day until 8/9pm, but not Christmas Day. I'll be 30 weeks pregnant and DD is 18 mo. We have 2 other older (adoptive/foster) kids. My 5 siblings are all 20s and only 1 is (newly) married. One lives with us as well. The newly weds work until 8 on Christmas Eve, so my Family wants to START dinner/gifts at 8 and 10pm. Fine by me, but we'll be leaving at that time. I gave another option of us hosting the festivities and going as late as needed, but apparently it's unreasonable to ask the newlyweds to drive 45 min (despite that we have for 10+ years). Other than this suggestion, I didn't ask for any accommodations, just stated our limitations.
And now that we're doing our own Christmas traditions Christmas morning for the first time ever (and hosting my DH's family in the evening) my FOO wants to do a midday activity too. We won't be attending that either. My mom is upset. I can tell she thinks we're being unreasonable. Thoughts?
