My mom's bday is next weekend, my DH's niece and nephew also have their bdays around the same time. We are driving 5 hours one way to go see my mom for her bday and plan on going to the kids' bday party that weekend as well. Sounds pretty normal, right? Well according to my parents, that is "disrespecting my mom" that we wont be there all weekend because it is HER birthday and we need to be there the entire weekend. Who gives a shit that my DH's niece and nephew's bday party is that weekend and they will only be 30 mins away from there - please also note that we havent seen that side of the family (DH's brother, SIL, and their kids) since Thanksgiving.
So now my mom texted me last night that she doesn't want us to come at all, she doesn't need to see us So she's going to lose out on seeing her first and only grandbaby for her bday because of her selfish actions?! (This isn't this first time they showed their selfiesness, so I'm not surprised), but to totally ignore my DH's family like that and act like they don't matter because only my mom gets to have a bday at that time, thats crazy! Oh and then my sister texted me to say that my DH and the baby can go to their party and I can stay back with my mom and them - do they not get that I am part of my DH's family as well?! I hate how selfish they are, I hate that I am the oldest and I still have two younger unmarried sisters that do everything my parents want them to do - I look like the bad guy, I guess.
How do I even start with this fight? Its crazy to me that they can't see that us leaving for a few hours that weekend to go to the bday party really is NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! Argh....I know you ladies will give me straight forward advice so I am open it to all - I'm really just over them as a whole but it hurts that me not talking to them will hurt the relationship they have with my son.
