I am over the current way MIL visits. She comes and sits on the couch and talks to DH and somewhat to the kids but they get bored and end up playing video games. She will usually play a board game with one DS. Then she gets pizza for their dinner.
They like the pizza part but I just feel like she is not really interacting with them much and I don't like the idea of her hanging out at my house. She was supposed to help with HW but she really is not helping. Plus this year they barely have any homework. Yay for that!
She has always been like this. She never got down in the floor and played with them when they were babies. She just wanted to hold them. She never offers to take them somewhere with DH like to the zoo or the park or the museum.
Now she does this with her other grandchildren but not ours.
So I finally told DH since I don't care to be around her and don't like her camping out for a few hours on my couch and doing not much more than that. That he needs to do like what I did with my Dad or my Mom and start setting up specific outings and visits with her. Like on sunday afternoon we will take them to the nature center. Then do it.
That way I don't have to see her and they actually have to do something to entertain and engage the kids. DH is lazy and is not going for having to do this but its time to be fair. When my Dad or Mom visits I always take the kids somewhere and don't make him come along most of the time. So time for him and his mom to do the same. I worry a bit if this happens the CO BIL or SIL and their kids might happen to show up there too, but they know the kids would tell me so they probably won't risk it.
So is that too much to ask that they take the kids somewhere? Why does she just want to sit on the damn couch? It has always bugged the shit out of me and I am over it finally.
