I have some BG here, but the worst stuff was on an older account and I lost my password so brief BG (I can go into detail if needed): MIL threatened to take custody of LO twice, if DH and I didn't moved in with her, and once while I was in labour. Also said she could have me tied up to an hospital bed and force fed because I had extreme morning sickness.
The major craziness stopped once LO was born, now she just bugs DH about our parenting decisions. LO and I see her about once every two months. I was trying to forget all the stuff she said to me before so LO could have a relationship with her, but since she basically only cares about LO on Facebook and when she can give me unsolicited advice through DH, I gave up. Apparently I was supposed to show up at her house without an invitation and I'm not comfortable with that (she really NEVER invited me over). I have invited her over several times and she never came. When she sees LO honestly 90% of the time she takes billions of pictures so she can post one per day, tell people what LO likes (she's never right though).
MIL married a man that wanted a green card (they live together since day one, I think it's weird, she knew him for 15 days before he moved in), but they ended up liking each other and she's pregnant now. I feel an unicorn growing because:
1- DH is excited
2- I always wanted to have a relative close in age. LO has plenty, but they are all 3-4 hours away and I dream of future play dates. MIL is 30min away.
3- I can have my revenge on the unsolicited advice (just kidding on that one, but I'll have great come backs like "oh that's great, you can do that to your baby while I decide what I do with LO")
4- I feel like MIL though she would raise LO when I was pregnant. DH and I are young parents, and her threats to take custody if we didn't move in with her just sounded like she was jealous (?). So maybe now she's going to have her own baby she can be an okay MIL?
Soooo should I let my unicorn live or not?
