My step mom just got a new puppy. She's 12 weeks old and extremely small. My step moms 30 year old sons JUST moved out in the last year so I think she's going through an empty nest phase. My son is 14 months old so he's still learning with his hands. He usually pets her dog gently but occasionally pats her. Not in an aggressive way but I think just exploring his surroundings kind of way. He's too young to know better. We went over to visit her and my dad the other day. My son started by gently petting the puppy and then it turned into patting. It didn't even seem like the puppy noticed because it wasn't very hard. My step mom immediately stood up and screamed at my son to the point where he started bawling and ran away from SM. My SM than went on to tell me that if my son ever hit her daughter (puppy) again she would physically punish him. I was furious and told her that if she ever lays a hand on my son or yells at him for any reason the least of her concerns would be my son patting her dog. And then I left and I refuse to go back. My dad thinks I'm over reacting but I really don't think I am. I'm also 9 months pregnant so I just wanna make sure I'm not being crazy and emotional but that I have a legitament reason to be upset about the way she treated him. They also want to watch him while I give birth but now I'm uncomfortable leaving him there alone with SM.
