Long MIL Visits

Hi ladies!

This is a vent because I don't know where else to take this. My mother-in-law lives on the other side of the country. For the last year, she has visited 3 times. Each getting longer. It had been 10 years since her last visit home until last summer. When I met my husband he told a me that he and his mom had a 10 day rule--they'd only visit a max of 10 days at a time. Longer just made things harder. It made sense.

Her first visit hit thay limit, sort of, with 14 days, but a number of them at her brothers' and sisters' houses. That is when we told her we were pregnant. Her next visit came when the baby was born. I'd asked my husband to ask her to plan to visit around the end of the month we were due, to hopefully give me some time to adjust to the new baby. Either he didn't do that or he did and she disregarded the request. She was here on week prior to the due date, and two weeks after. A total of three weeks. Again, though, she stayed with her sins at least a part of the time (I made it clear I needed my time), but it was still more than 10 days together. Now she's here for her third visit. 35 days. 35. We are a week out from her departure and are as spent 22 of them with us.

Of note: my mil is disabled. So she isn't able to help much around the house. She can hold the baby, do dishes, but that is it. She mostly sits in the sand spot day and night. We no longer have a guest room, so she sleeps on our couch. I feel like my home had been taken over. Like I have no sanctuary.

Christmas is on the horizon and I fear that she will try to come for her grandbaby's first Christmas and stay over two months until his first birthday. This frustrates and terrifies me.

I mentioned to my husband about reinstating the old 10 day rule, but he refused. "It's my mom...rarely see her...yada yada yada."

She's also really really nice. I hate hating her visits. I dread them. Dread. Help!
