I am seriously at my wit's end. I have a 21 year old brother and I love him dearly. Even though we're 7 years apart we're extremely close, pretty much best friends.
He's the only one in my FOO who sees the dysfunction clearly and recognizes that I've always been the SG. He's the youngest. Middle brother is the clear GC. But I'm definitely in last place with our parents.
Because I have the best relationship in worried about a confrontation /frank discussion I need to have with him.
I've never really been mad at him before but I am right now. He lives about 30 minutes from me. He has 2 cats and I have one. He let one of the cats run around outside with strays. It got fleas. I told him he needed to treat the cats and his whole apartment immediately or he'd have an infestation. He said he'd take care of it. This was in like March. He didn't. He let it get worse. He then came over several times after telling me it was all fine. Really he had only treated one cat and not his apartment at all. Fleas got off his clothes while here and have now infested my apartment and my cat.
Our cat is indoor only. In 8 years he's NEVER had fleas.
Ybro finally admitted he could visibly see fleas hopping around his closet and CRV. If they're that visible you know you have thousands. I'm disgusted. He didn't take action until he got bit to pieces. His fiancee didn't have any bites. Yet I can't understand her being so complacent about it too.
I now have over 200 bites! It turns out I have a severe allergy to them. I've treated the cat, the carpets, furniture, and laid traps. But I'm still finding them. I'm going to have to let off foggers tomorrow. We've already spent around $75-100 on treatment products. An expense we can't really afford right now. And I'll need to buy more tonight. I had to get permethrin cream for all of us from my doctor so we'd stop getting bit. Just one tube charges my insurance over $200.
Is there a way I can diplomatically ask my brother to help reimburse us for all the flea products and ask him not to come over until he knows his apartment, cat, vehicle,and self are flea free?
I don't want to go nuclear because we're really close and I love him but I feel this needs addressing. I suck at confrontation.
My Mom told me I was being unfair and that fleas can come from anywhere. I disagree. We've never had a problem in over 8 years. We keep our cat inside and well groomed etc. I think my brother was extremely irresponsible. He's visiting my parents out of state right now and I told my husband if they get fleas too they better not come crying to me.
DH is mad but doesn't think we can ask for reimbursement. I know if I did this to someone I would offer to help anyway I could and offer payment.
