I'm looking for any advice I can get. I'm new to lurking on this board, so if there's any particular threads you think I should read, I'll gladly take them. I'm sure this sounds really redundant to a lot of you, so apologies in advance.
I've been with DF for almost 10 years. Our first LO is due in September. His family lives about 16 hours away, whereas mine live 10 minutes down the road. His family is chill, my family is overbearing.
This is the first grandchild on both sides. FMIL plans on coming to visit for a week about a month after LO gets here to give us time and space to adjust and bond with her. His family is definitely excited, just extremely relaxed and understanding that we're going to be new parents and want to figure a lot of this out ourselves.
My family... well. I was told it was a shame I wasn't delivering at a certain hospital so my parents, brothers and one set of grandparents could be in the room while I push LO out. MOO has said things that seem to imply this is more of a 4th child for her, not a grandchild. One of my grandmothers has made it clear that she'll be giving (outdated) advice on every little aspect of raising LO.
I've already talked with the hospital about visitors, and DF and I are in agreement that my parents are welcome, as well as his cousin (his only family that lives in the area). Outside of that, no one else is. MOO has already stated she's taking off a week of work to help. Help was not requested.
I'm sure once LO is here, I may appreciate some advice and help. However, I want to make it very clear that this is my child. I've never had to set up boundaries with my family before, and since I'm the first one to have a child in my generation, I have no clue where to even begin. I don't want to hurt feelings, but at the same time, I know that by being firm, I may do so.
Any advice is helpful. I know I need to put on my big girl panties and just set my foot down, but I've never had any experience in doing it.
