Hi guys,
A friend of mine has been recommending your site to me for a long time, but I think I'm finally at my wit's end today. I'm really scared because she told me you guys were tough, but my baby shower was today, and I'm just a huge sloppy crying mess and I don't know what to do.
My husband and I have been married a little over 8 years, we're expecting our son to arrive on Sept 12, and my mother in law threw my baby shower. She's a little overbearing and kind of a control freak, and my babycenter friend has been helping me deal with her for years now, and she generally has good advice, but chat boards aren't really my thing, anyway, i'm rambling. I'm a mess. This whole day was a disaster.
So my mother in law wanted to throw my baby shower, and given that she is a really strong personality, I wasn't really feeling it, but fine, whatever. It made her happy and I just had to go with the flow.
I invited all of my friends, and come to find out that my mother in law never sent invitations to them. She only sent invites to her friends. The only person who knew is my BFF (who is my babycenter/DWIL Nation recommender) because we had been talking on the phone about the shower from the get go. I verbally invited her when we landed on a date, so even when she didn't get her invite, we chalked it up to being a fluke and she planned on coming anyway. Come to find out my mother in law never invited any of my friends.
So I show up to this party, and the only person I know there is BFF. My BFF gave me 3 onesies that offended my mother in law, and she flew off the handle. She yelled at me for embarrassing her in front of her friends, then stormed out of the party she was hosting after I opened them. Apparently she drove to my house and tattled to my husband, who then called mid-party to yell at me over the phone about how rude I was since she had hosted the party and this was her grandchild after all.
She told him that the messages on the onesies offended her, and she just didn't know if she could attend the birth now, but here's the thing I NEVER INVITED HER TO THE BIRTH ANYWAY.
That's not the worst of it. I'm so embarrassed, my BFF is helping me shut down the party because at that point I'm trying not to cry in front of all of my mother inlaw's friends. I'm humiliated. My BFF feels terribly that her gift caused so much drama. She just thought it was funny given everything we had talked about.
So my BFF is getting me and my gifts out the door so she can deal with all the old biddies herself, and I go home, and of course my husband and I get into it. He says if I hadn't been bad mouthing his mother to everyone then my BFF would never have given the gift.
THEN, in the middle of our fight he gets a text from her saying that she has the onesies and I had better not think I'm getting them back. They they are rude and disrespectful. He reads this to me, and I go to the kitchen to look at my pile of presents I brought in and I KNOW I brought them home, so then I realise that she used her key to come into my house while we were fighting and she stole them! That just made our fight bigger because she is always doing stuff like this that feels so violating!
We decided that our fight was going no where, so I left and went to my BFF's house and here we are typing this whole ridiculous saga out. I'm humiliated. I'm huge and pregnant and I hate that she causes all these stupid fights between my husband and me.
I don't even know what to do. I don't know why I'm posting. I don't know what you guys can do for me, but this is hands down the most horrible day of my life (worse than my wedding that she also ruined!) I mean, it can't get much worse than this.
So I guess here goes nothing? BFF is here and told me the board moves fast and that I should be ready to answer questions.
