DH and I have decided to begin the process to end the TO with PIL. We are in councelling and feel we are prepared to enforce boundaries and give consequences if those boundaries are not followed. The plan is for DH to resume contact for an initial period (at least 6 months) and then I will be brought in and we will see how that goes before involving LO (perhaps by this time next year). The problem is, we don't know how to initiate contact without looking like a rugsweep. DH has been adamant that in order to move forward, PIL need to offer a genuine apology so, of course, asking for one is out of the question.
DH wants to email PIL. He's been working on what he wants to say and it's not good. It's long and wordy and I just don't think they will read it or care.
So, wise DWIL, what should he say? How do we open the lines of communication and try to begin to form a new relationship. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.
