In May I had my first baby. Our baby was born the Monday night, and on Tuesday DH messaged everyone letting them know the news and we were open to visitors at thr hospital. Friends and family showed up at the hospital. The one person who didn't visit was MIL. She messaged DH telling us congrats and wished us many blessings. She didn't show for the days I was in the hospital. She never called to say why. I was pissed that she didn't have the decency to have called and said something to us. A week later I was in the house sleeping while DH went grocery shopping. Our baby was asleep at the time. MIL came over wanting to visit us. I told her she was out of her mind because my child was a week old and she never showed care to call or visit, or say anything. She said she was not able to get time off work and worked double shifts, and the only free time she had was the day she showed up. She brought a gift and wanted to see her grandchild. I told her they were asleep and if she wanted to see them we would call her. She told me her job schedule was hectic with long hours and could only visit on an off day. She asked about visiting a Thursday the same week. I told her ok.
Thursday came and she said she had to go in for work so couldn't make it. I asked her about the weekend, she said she had plans with friends to attend a concert so couldn't come. The week after, she came over after her shift. She was still in her work clothes and wanted to see her grandchild. I told her sure but she couldn't hold them because of her work clothing. Since May she has not see my baby more than five times. Everything is work for her, and friends.
Since we barely heard her we didn't call her. When we had the baptism we invited those needed to be there. She found out we had it and called asking why she was not told about it and invited to attend. I told her we never hear her and she rarely sees her grandchild. She used work as an excuse and said it was bad to have denied her an invite to the baptism. She decided to stop talking to me now.
I told her if she wanted to stop talking to me, she won't see my child.
She thinks I'm in the wrong.
