Last year for Christmas I arrived at my aunt's house to discover my cousin (son of aunt) had brought his 2 large dogs to the celebration. One of them was calm and quiet (a husky mix) and one of them (a German Shepherd) while not agressive, was definitely being a hearding dog and nipped my 9 year old cousin on the butt and tried to herd/follow my 2 yo LO around (I picked him up so he wasn't near the dog). I mentioned to cousin that the dog was trying to herd my toddler felt it was unsafe and he got deeply offended that I inferred that the dog wasn't trained properly. I realize it was a mistake for me not to leave immediately.
I now also have a 3 month old baby. We (DH and I) have already decided not to go if the dogs will be present. My question is, is it appropriate to mention to my aunt that we will not come to her celebration if the dogs are present, or is that out of line for me to mention since it is her house and her son that brings the dogs? I live about 6 hours drive away so I like to see all of my family while I am in my hometown (my parents live 5 min from aunt), but obviously I am not willing to put my kids in danger to do so.
