My future mil bakes as a hobby. She's so good that she bakes stuff for family or friends. In doing so she has to get orders in and plan accordingly to get the goods, and time her deliveries properly.
Being the partner of her son, and mom to her grandsons, I was interested in her baking skills, and decided to place orders like everyone else. I did not use my status to get treatment. I followed her rules and waited like everyone else. We got cakes, cookies, special foreign treats, and doughnuts. When it came to birthday parties for her grandsons, she volunteered to do their cakes and cupcakes for the parties.
Since becoming engaged, we decided to hold a party inviting close family and friends. We sent out invites, and I called her asking if she was free around the timeline needed in order to bake a cake and make sixty cupcakes. She said yes, and all I needed was to provide the money and food list. I have food allergies, and knowing how I am affected, I asked those on the invite list if they were allergic to anything specific. Nobody else was allergic to what I wanted. I was the only person, so I informed mil she had to make two cakes. Her son wanted a particular cake made which I couldn't eat because what was to be used, I'm allergic to. I told her the cake she was making for me would be used for others to try, so don't worry.
She said great, I give her the money from her son and i. The engagment party was Sunday last week. She came over with everything in the afternoon as the party was to be in the evening around 5:30pm. The cupcakes were done nice. There was only one cake done, and it was the one my fiancé wanted. I asked where was mine as I told her two given my food allergies. She claimed she ran out of ingredients, and her oven malfunctioned. I asked when, and why she didn't say something. She said Saturday night, and it was bad because she barely got the cake out or else it would have burnt up. To avoid hurt, I droppeed any feelings, and carried on the evening.
Her sister was there that evening and asked her what time she went to bed. She replied at 1 am. My fiancé told his aunt she barely got things finished because the oven malfunctioned. Hus aunt was skeptical, and said "I thought it was always one cake?" She responded hurriedly saying "I never told you anything." Her sister got out her phone and came to me showing text messages between them on Saturday night. She told her sister I wanted sixty cupcakes and two cakes, but was going to only do one cake because she didn't feel the party had to be lavish. She told her sister she was going to make the one cake exclusive of the ingredients im allergic to, and make an excuse as to why there was only one.
I called her out on it and she said yes, she made up the lie, and made the cake exclusive of the ingredients im allergic to, so at the end of the day I could be able to still eat cake. I told her she lied and deceived me on something which was to be special for me. She apologized, and said life happens.
My fiancé told her she lied and asked why she lied. She made excuses and told him we got a cake and cupcakes, so be grateful. She said she was sorry, and would make up for it. Thursday she came over with a cake. The cake had on nuts. I'm allergic to nuts. She said she forgot and thought I was only allergic to one type of nuts. I told her she knew I am allergic to all nuts. She acted like she wasn't sure, and used the nuts as design and crunchy flavor. I threw it away in front of her because I was mad at her deception. She called me irrational and said I should let go of what happened on Sunday.
She says we all make mistakes and her apology was sincere, but I needed to let go of a rotten event, and move on.
