Based on my time lurking here and seeing what has resulted in regrets or upsetting experiences for other moms, I have decided to compile a list of rules/boundaries for both my parents and dh's parents. And FYI- We don't plan to just email them a blunt list, it would be a respectful conversation each of us has with our respective parents.
This post is twofold. First being- I would love any help you can with the list, if there's something I have left off or something I should remove. My other question is at what point does it make sense to lay down the rules/boundaries for the GPs? I'm about 21 weeks along now and I feel like it may be a bit early to be addressing stuff like this. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Do not come to the birth center/hospital. We will let you know when we are ready for visitors.
Do not pick up the baby while he's sleeping
Do not stick your finger in the baby's mouth
Do not give the baby any food without permission
Do not give the baby anything to drink without permission
Ask before picking up the baby.
Do not try to take the baby out of his parents arms.
Do not kiss the baby on the mouth
If baby's mom or dad asks for him, give the baby to his parent immediately
Do not leave the room with the baby
If the baby is reaching for his parent, give the baby to his parent.
Wash hands before touching the baby
