Long time lurker, first time poster here. After reading so many stories on here I looked into what a narcissist is and I'm all but 100% sure that my mother has the disorder. Every single trait that I could find about it, she has. It has explained so much about my childhood and reading everything, I felt a massive release. I finally felt like I wasn't actually crazy and I wasn't just making things up about her. (I can give BG on her type of crazy if needed but I didn't want this post to be a novel.) Bottom line is, I'm not sure how to proceed.
My mother is absolutely toxic. She regularly snakes her way into ruining everything that makes me even a little happy. It got better once I was old enough to move out and she's been on limited contact for the most part. I recently limited it even more and I think she realized what I was doing because she called me out of no where to "just see how I was doing." Yeah. Right. I think I've made the decision to do a complete CO with her and my brother. My brother is her golden child and is her exact mirror. I don't want that around my kids. I don't want this crap to trash their childhood like it trashed mine. But I'm not in the best place mentally (I have several diagnosed mental illnesses) and honestly, I don't know how to go about it without having the whole family turn on me.
I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question. I'm just now coming around to realizing that my relationship with my mother is not normal and I'm still coming to terms with it. A small part of me is holding out hope that she will change even though logically, I know it's never going to happen. I knew this was the best place to come because you ladies don't hold back and you'll be able to give me real advice without coddling me. So how do I go about cutting out my insane mother?
