I'm 23 and my dh is 25. We are four months in to our first pregnancy. He has one other sibling, a brother who is 22. Their parents had them really early. My mil is 43, my FIL is 46. Through the two years of my marriage I knew my in laws were TTC. My mil had made it knowledge that she suffered numerous losses. There were times she and FIL went long periods without TTC. They seriously started back when my BIL was 18.
For some oddball celestial crazy reason, she and FIL have ended up pregnant the same time as me and their son. I'm four months along, she is 7 wks. They broke the happy news to us on Friday night. My BIL asked how and they told us through In vitro. FIL was open about what they went through and informed us they are near broke. They are in a bind and FIL has to look for a second job. Mil sold her car to get the money's worth to help their pockets.
Whenever DH and i are in a bind we try to work our way out of it. If by small chance we need assistance we go to either my parents or his. If we go to his parents, they, especially his mother, would tell us "you made your bed, deal with the consequences on your own."
At their house on Friday, FIL took his sons outside for a private talk. Mil was quiet and didn't communicate with me much. I asked how she was feeling, she said fabulous. I asked who her doctor was, she said mine. I jumped. Everyone goes to my doctor as he's the best, but I got bad feelings when she said his name.
Anyways, DH and BIL came back in with FIL. The three of them were quiet and acted strange. Time came to leave as we had a 35 minute drive back home. On the drive home, DH asked me if I could keep a secret. He knows I can keep secrets, so I was confused on what he was asking or going to say. He told me his dad asked him and his brother if both of them could help contribute $2500 each to helping him and mil. Like wtaf? That amount of money isn't easy. I asked him if he said NO. He said he told his dad he can't afford it given what our life is now. BIL works but is single. BIL said the amount is his paycheck and he couldn't afford giving up his check. DH works for $85k a year. We are saving for our future and trying to get a new home. FIL told them they were making excuses and they should help them out because of family, and they sacrificed a lot to give them a good life. FIL gave them a three month timeline. I told DH hell fucking no.
Yesterday morning, mil called. DH was in the shower so I told her he would call her back. She wanted to speak to him ASAP. I told him his mother wanted him. All he said on his end was "yep", "no", "yep", "no", "no".
He's not sure what to do. BIL called telling him he makes more than him, so should put more up.
DH told BIL he told me even though FIL asked them not tell anyone. I told BIL DH money is my money and our baby's. I asked they both not give money as their parents knew what they were doing.
Should I butt out?
