I have posted here before and everyone has been very helpful. So I come back with a new situation.
Tonight I go to an impromptu family cookout celebrating my cousin's engagement. I came alone with my two DSs. The oldest is 30 months and the youngest is 7 months. My 7th month old has a congenital heart issue. So my DW and I significantly limit his exposure. Since this was a rare event I decided to go though I didn't have DW with me since she's working this holiday.
As soon as I set foot in my sister's house, my mom(I forget what you all abbreviate mom with) and my aunt both want to hold the baby since they "never get to" (the both have held him probably around a dozen times). I said to them "I have no problem with you holding him BUT my only ask is that you wash your hands." They both gave me eye rolls and said "well we washed them before we came here." So I only allowed for a couple minutes and that was it.
Unfortunately I felt like the horrible family member for the rest of the two hours I was there. My family all thought I went overboard and acted "ridiculous". Even my cousin (again sorry for not using the acronym) said "what's the problem mike? We all washed our hands before we came here. It's not like we don't wash our hands."
Finally, since everyone was in the same room and was listening to my cousin lecturing me, I said out loud "I'm not saying you all are dirty people. What I don't think anyone in this room quite understands is if DS gets even a small cold, he can go into heart failure. My DW and I are very careful for that reason."
I then fed my DS his bottle and took the older DS and left early.
Your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
