DH just told me that he hates his mom...

He said, "I don't want to hate my mom, but I really do." It broke my heart and I told him that. His reasons are:

She pays zero attention to our son, despite the fact that she has other grandchildren and some "adopted" (not legally, just a word she uses) granchildren that she fawns over.

She is zero help. Lives 5 minutes from us and literally never once brought over even a frozen pizza when ds was born or offered to do anything. DH has a demanding job and she didnt offer to help, hold ds, nothing to make our lives easier.

I'm pregnant with #2, he has told her but she hasn't even acknowledged it to me or said congrats / asked how I'm feeling, etc.

He said that she is disrespectful to me, and that she treats him like he is a kid. He's 31 years old, and we both have good careers and educations yet we are treated like children rather than adults/parents/equal members of society.

For me it all stems from when DH and I lived together 10 years ago before getting married. She disapproved and told him that she would never speak to him again if he continued living with me. She was obviously bluffing but that has been what set the tone for our relationship (me and mil) so maybe it was all doomed from the start?

I don't want DH to hate his mom, it makes me sad and I feel partially responsible because I don't have a good relationship with her, although I've tried.

Any thoughts would be appriciated, it's just a crappy situation!
