My mother is here for 2 weeks while my DH is in residential PTSD treatment. She is an intelligent woman, was a doctor in Russia and is am RN now. But she does these absolutely hairbrained things. For instance 2 days ago she decided to handwashed everything in the sink, despite me showing her how to use a dishwasher. That's not the bad part. Then because we had stuff on counters and instead of taking off 1 big box we had on dining table (righr next to kitchen) putting towels on it and putting things to dry on or calling me to ask what to do, she took a trash bag, put it on a kitchen floor thay really needs to be washed and put things to dry on that bag. We also have 2 cats that go everywhere and allowed outdoors. Some things I can choke up to poor language skills or her just being very bad with technology/appliances. But this... no.

I don't have concerns from this about dementia or anything like that. She's always done or said hairbrained stuff, I just notice more because she does things in my home now instead of the home she and I shared. And I am pretty particular about some things. I just don't understand how someone who was intelligent to be a very good doctor does something like this. And I'm not sure how to talk to her or correct her. Her response usually is that she's just trying to help, or like to this "well i put it on a clean bag". I don't want to not have her over, she rarely visits and she was truly trying to help. I'm just concerned that she does these things and potentially does something that could have bad consequences for her
